about

My latest work is again rooted in deep intimacy: the birth intimacy and more precisely the relationship with the father. Biological birth is only a technical matter, but to be born spiritually, to be born to oneself, requires an anchoring in life in order to experience its multiplicities and to clarify one's path.

Birth is just ahead, death at the beginning (some say that one must "kill the father"). This piece was born from a desire to tell the story of my father's existence in order to better sow him and tear myself away from the progenitor and the family novel.

The musical fragment is made of six major moments which evoke the chapters of his life from childhood to the hospital bed. A life with which he has not been able to reconcile, a wandering, full of excesses and addictions that have inevitably led him to two dead ends: the one of not being able to assume his paternal duty and the one of illness, which is gradually eating him away.

A tension thus inhabits the play from beginning to end. The use of sound collage gives the sensation of an urgency, of an unsurpassable chaos where sound events (field recordings, samples of different sound sources, etc.) clash and collide at variable speeds. The moments of peace are rare but precious. They give breath and finally reveal all the light that can be found in the absence of a father: the strength to look for figures of identification that will be essential elements of the construction, inexhaustible resources to forge oneself.

This play is an offering for all runaways and resigners, those who refuse to be only "sons of" and who take the mysterious paths of vital agency : to be born is to propel oneself into life.
